I love this statement "Be-you-tiful", a reminder that just being yourself is beautiful.
I recently organized a conference for 12-13 yr old girls and I knew I wanted to incorporate this statement. I don't own a fancy vinyl/paper cutting machine or a large budget so I came up with this up-cycling project and made signs out of my old 3 1/2 inch wide vertical blinds.
Supplies:
Colored Card stock (I bought a 12X12 book of paper and cut down to 8.5 x 11)
Printer/photocopier
3 1/2 inch wide Vinyl Vertical Blinds
White glue
Paint brush
Razor Knife and cutting surface
Straight edge for cutting
Drill
Sheer Ribbon
1. Cut the vertical blinds with a a razor knife and straight edge in 11 inch increments (length of a piece of paper). The blinds were not hard to cut taking just a couple of strokes.
2. Have fun with fonts and make your statement in a word document in Landscape orientation. I fit 2 words on a page.
3. Print out your words on colored card stock. I cut 12x12 sheets of paper down to regular 8.5x11 size sheets. Note of caution: If printing on fancy card stock with shiny surfaces the ink may not dry and could easily smudge. I very lightly sprayed the paper with a polyurethane spray, but be careful as this can also make the ink run.
4. Center the words over your strip of vinyl blinds and mark edge and cut with razor knife.
5. Glue paper to blinds with white glue
6. Drill 2 holes on top.
7. Thread ribbon and tie with a bow to make a hanger.
It was fun having a variety of different colored papers so the girls could choose something to fit their personality.
I took the left overs to work and it was a hit there too.
